Linda Sweeney

"Each one of my paintings is a journey. I think of myself as a colorist, exploring and exaggerating color along the way. The rich colors of the pigment allow me to express feelings and emotions, as well as to provoke the viewer's response to the journey."

Linda Sweeney's work is characterized as being explorations in color. By expanding and contracting color marks/spaces/lines, her paintings may become suggestive of a landscape or an abstract space. So by elaborating on this color relationship, it becomes symbolic of her tendency to wander from the landscape to the abstract and back again. The conversation continues between color marks, color spaces, and color lines.

Sweeney uses many layers of pigment to build her paintings. To intensify this effect, different mediums may be utilized to exhibit texture and depth of color. Many elements come together through the action of painting itself. The act of painting dictates the journey.

As an elementary school student, Sweeney won an art competition and has been creating art ever since. She holds a B.A. in Studio Arts from Chatham College and she continued her post-graduate work in art concentrating on two-dimensional mediums. Her work has received many local and national awards and is included in the collection of the University of Vermont Health Network, as well as in many private collections.
