Tracy Fiegl

"Living in the hills above the Genesee River valley, my most heartfelt hope is that each piece I build reflects the beauty of the forests and fields surrounding me. "

With a background in science and a love for the peaceful surroundings of his rural home, Tracy Fiegl closely observes the local flora and fauna, seeing elegance, gracefulness, and intricate patterns in the structures of nature. Through his work, Fiegl creates new objects to celebrate the natural forms and processes that fascinate him.

In his furniture, Tracy Fiegl explores suggested volumes of space enclosed by graceful, relatively slender elements. Sometimes branching, sometimes repeating, these elements are hand shaped from solid wood and connected with joinery adapted from traditional furniture making used in non-traditional ways. Often these shaped elements are partnered with panels of dramatically patterned veneer.

After studying science in college, Tracy Fiegl returned home to build furniture inspired by the natural structures around him. Through the years, he has learned by doing: working as a technician at an art school, as an assistant to a renowned art furniture maker, and as a prototyper for a furniture manufacturer. He continually builds his own furniture designs using the lessons learned.
