Gray Thread Piscine
Art Glass Sculpture
Created by
David Patchen
Inspired by the streamlined denizens of the marine world, this blown glass sculpture from Patchen's Piscine series is low and sleek with great three-dimensional optics. Crisp details and vibrant colors are hallmarks of Patchen's work - the result of his technical and creative mastery.
Created using the challenging murrini technique, Patchen uses both hot and cold glassworking processes to create hundreds of patterned glass tiles made from glass threads, composes them into a mosaic, then fuses them together and begins the blowing process.
This one-of-a-kind piece features murrini created from a mosaic of thousands of threads of transparent grey over white with highlights in gold, tea and cherry threads. This substantial sculpture has great presence and a sleek, flattened profile. It is double-encased in clear glass for depth, optics, and stability.
