Observing daily visitors to her bird feeder, Gomien translates assorted bird details into glass to create these vibrant garden characters. The artist detailed Lucy and Ethel with bright and contrasting bodies to be seen easily from afar.

They are meticulously pieced together using brightly colored glass and pieces of custom made sheet glass. They were fired and fused in a kiln and then adhered to a handmade stainless steel garden stake with foot for easy installation. The bird's name is engraved on the back. Signed by the artist. Dimensions listed refer to the bird alone. Birds are mounted on a 26"H or 32"H post.

" Color is my playground; geometry and composition define the boundaries within which I play."

As a child, Terry Gomien lusted after that big box of crayons with the sharpener on the back. That vast array of richly hued wax sticks formed her initial color theory. She continues to play with the same vibrant palette translated now with glass.

Gomien creates one of a kind glass sheets for her work. The meditative process of manipulating glass powder adds an intended depth to her pieces. She patiently assembles sheets of tiny glass threads into vibrant undulating waves of color. She fires these sheets. She hand cuts them and combines the graphic details with vibrant sheet glass to create her compositions.Multiple firings complete the work.

As a former toy inventor, Gomien developed an insatiable curiosity. This lead her to a glass class at Lill Street Art, Chicago and she was hooked. It was her travels to Bullseye Glass, Portland however, that started her real training. Many workshops later instructors Patty Gray, Kari Minnick, Richard Parrish and Elise Kendrot most influence her current work.

Garden birds

Lucy and Ethel brighten up my green and brown landscape. I can see them from my porch swing and am delighted with this "evergreen" cheer.

Love Lucy & Ethel

I now have four of these little guys out in my front flower garden....gifts from my sister. When the flowers get tall, they look so cute "floating" amongst the blooms.

Lucy and Ethel - bring a smile to your garden

Just love Lucy and Ethel. I think all my flowers are happier. Very well made. Just a joy to see them peaking out amidst the foliage. If you are looking for garden art consider them ( or any of the others).

Bright and Cheerie

I could not wait to welcome Ethel and Lucy to my garden. After a bit of trial and error, I have got them situated in a delightful spot. The challenge was to minimize the stake that the birds are attached to. Against some back drops the stakes are more prominent, like a painted garage. However, they can be camouflaged against a wood fence quite nicely. Well made, nice thickness, and packaged well! St. Francis has really upped his game in my garden with these birds around.

Gorgeous & Fun

I bought 6 different styles of these little birds and I love them all! They are beautifully made, very sturdy and bring a touch of whimsy to my landscaping. I absolutely recommend them.
