Blown glass flat-sided vessel with a lively calligraphic design on the surface canvas. The wildflower melody of colors hits all the right notes in this abstract modernist palette. Satin etched finish is complemented by matte black lipwrap and matching solid-glass base. The painterly composition is inspired by gardens in Eastern Europe. The flat profile and small footprint of this design will brighten even the smallest spaces. Suitable for use with flowers. Hand wash. Each is unique and will vary.

Eric Bladholm

"My work incorporates dream-like imagery into the thick layers of a glass canvas."

The colors and textures of nature are the departure points for many of Bladholm's innovative explorations with blown glass. Summers in Door County, Wisconsin, as a child, and extensive travels in Europe have influenced his work.

Eric Bladholm's blown glass designs involve multiple sections, usually a base piece and a custom-fitted sculptural lid. At their smallest, these pieces resemble their functional relatives, the perfume bottle. At their wildest, mold-blown glass is utilized to create abstract/industrial shapes that are presented in an organic cast metal base.

Bladholm got his start in glass and art early. At age 11, his older sister taught him how to make stained and leaded glass, which he pursued until he discovered the art of glassblowing in college. After completing his BFA in fine art and glass at California College of Arts and Crafts, he spent a season in Europe working with several renowned glass masters. He then returned to Chicago to meet the challenges of building a studio of his own.

Very pleased

I bought the gold-color autumn apples and truly love it. I read with interest other reviewers who were taken with the light streaming through the vase. Yes, the lighting does seem to alter the look to some extent...in a good way. Fortunately, I'm drawn to it in any light. Also worth mentioning, the photo represents the piece quite well. I am now tempted to get the reddish one after I find out more info on measurements and shape.

It is lovely as is, but is even more beautiful when sunlight streams through.

It's a wonderful, imaginative piece. It totally captures the natural details of wild flora like my favorite bittersweet. I collect branches, leaves, and various other woodland treasures. The vase fits perfectly and it catches light amazingly!

I actually ordered a second; I like it so much. Interestingly, Mr. Bladholm shared that he spent time in Door County, Wisconsin. I also vacationed there; the place made a lasting impression. I have a close friend who resides in Sturgeon Bay.
