An iridescent web dances across the richly colored surface of this flattened blown glass vessel. The artist creates the intricate patterning by applying reactive titanium and clear glass threading during the blowing process. Each is unique and will vary slightly.

Minh Martin
"I seek functional elegance—the transformation of raw, formless elements into a distilled beauty that graces everyday life. "

Minh Martin believes the objects we surround ourselves with should engage our affections, pique our imaginations, and elevate our collective identity. He believes that art and craft are the antidotes to throw-away culture, and that by making durable and precious objects, we enrich ourselves and ensuing generations.

Martin uses traditional tools and techniques. Starting with clear glass at 2,000 degrees, he adds detail and color throughout the process using solo techniques mastered over years of experimentation. Metals such as silver and titanium are a signature of his work and create dazzling finishes. His current collections explore surface design utilizing cameo techniques and precious metal enamels.

Martin was born in Saigon, Vietnam and was raised Mennonite in rural Pennsylvania. After studying geophysics at Yale University, he ended up in Santa Barbara, CA where he apprenticed with the great Brioni. After short stints in other glass studios, he returned to the East Coast. He now lives and works in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

Beautiful, but not designed to survive....

I really love the iridescence of this vase; the Artist has a remarkable skill with that particular feature. The shape, too, is extremely nice. But, this vase is far, far too light for it's size: just a bit over one pound. (I was astonished when I first unpacked it!) Furthermore, the base is far, far too small for the size of the vase: 1 5/8" x 2". Why the fuss with the dimensions and weight? The vase is barely stable. i had this vase on display on top of a very heavy oak chest (over 250#) along with a Lundberg, a few Abelman ornaments, a Chihuly, among a few other glass pieces, candlesticks, a small lamp, etc. An incident occurred - just a small bump to the chest. Nothing moved except...yes, this vase. It fell over and the top cracked clean off. So, of course, it is no longer a beautiful part of my collection. I'm sad. It was a waste of money, and a waste of effort to design and build. Of course, glass is fragile. But, none of us displays our favorite objects in a vacuum.

We're sorry to hear your vase was damaged after it's fall. We would recommend using museum putty to secure all fragile items, no matter their size or apparent stability. Our Customer Care team will be in touch with you shortly to discuss further.

perfect

It is far prettier than the pictures. I bought it for my sister's birthday and we are both very happy with it.
