"Nature is truly perfect in its creation—impossible to reproduce. I do not strive to recreate the natural world exactly; instead, I try to capture the essence of the animal I am sculpting, not only in its physical features, but also its attitude and spirit. "

Grant Garmezy grew up on a working farm outside of Nashville, Tennessee. From a young age, he was fascinated by exploring the fields and forest surrounding his home. His early memories of growing up in a rural environment continue to influence his work. Today, he creates work inspired by the natural world and strives to capture movement and life in his glass sculptures.

Garmezy starts each piece by gathering molten glass onto a metal pipe, then sculpting it with a variety of metal and wood hand tools. He does not use molds, ensuring that every piece is one of a kind.

Grant Garmezy earned a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University with an emphasis on glassblowing. Upon graduation, he was awarded an international residency in Scotland. The Royal Scottish Academy awarded him the Benno Schotz Award for most promising young sculptor in the UK. He has been invited to exhibit his work all over the world, including Seoul, Edinburgh, Prague, Paris, and Istanbul.
