Ralph Gabriner
Photographer Ralph Gabriner uses a digital camera, but for the most part employs traditional printing techniques such as cropping, contrast and color control, lightening and darkening.
His photographs are about light and subject rather than special effects. All of his prints are created archivally as giclee pigment prints.
Gabriner is an auto-didact with his principle influences in music and literature. The composer Beethoven, who inherited a classical tradition of musical forms and then spent his working life tearing down those forms and building new ones, is a a great inspiration. Gustave Flaubert is another influence, a writer who created a new kind of realism through his use of language.
