This is a collection of hand carved ceramic rattles in a small ceramic dish. Each piece makes its own unique rattle sound. These pieces are fun to look at, touch, and hear. Sold in a set as shown. Exact patterns will vary.

"All of my ceramic pieces are made by hand. I carve the intricate designs on each piece, then individually burnish and sand them before firing. After the work cools from the first firing, each piece is washed, waxed, hand-painted with oxides, and then fired a final time up to 2400 degrees."

Kelly Jean Ohl's work reminds people of things they have found on the floor of the forest, something they have touched in a tide pool, or a single cell organism once viewed under a microscope. Her ceramic pieces aren't any of these things in particular. They are small abstract objects that reference many biological entities without being any one specifically.

Ohl uses many household utensils as well as handmade textiles in her ceramic work. This is the start for many of the intricate patterns. Each piece is then hand carved, burnished, washed, waxed, and sanded. After the building process is complete, each piece will then go through multiple kiln firings and will be hand painted with oxides.

Kelly Jean Ohl attended Minnesota State University, where she earned a BA in theater and art and an MA with an emphasis on ceramics. She also holds an MFA degree from the University of Michigan.

Simple yet stunning

Wish I had bought a size larger. Each piece is unique and beautifully crafted. You can arrange them however you choose. Very please with this purchase.

Really Fun

Not a single person that has entered my living room since I received these has been able to resisted playing with them. The pieces are beautifully organic and draw people in. Once they have a piece in hand and realize it's a rattle, they have to go through the whole bowl. These are definitely smile producers.

Lovely Ceramic Rattles

These arrived on time and very well packaged to prevent breakage. They are really beautiful. Just like
in the picture. I really love them. The bowl is also very pretty. Soft sand was included to lay the rattles
in the bowl. If I had perused her other pieces I would have had a very hard time choosing. Many other
beautiful pieces and prices ranges on line.

Exactly what I hoped for

I was looking for something earthy and organic, the Small Sensory Bowl is just what I wanted. It is so nicely made and so interesting. I am very happy with my purchase. I will look for other pieces made by Kelly Jean Ohi.
