Improv Garden
Fiber Wall Hanging
Created by
Cindy Grisdela
"Improv Garden" was inspired by the colors of a flower bouquet. The abstract flower blocks are each a different design, seeming to climb up the green background to reach the sun. Creating lines and shapes directly out of fabric is liberating, engaging Grisdela in a dialogue with her materials. The final touch is the texture created by the free motion stitching, pulling the composition into a cohesive whole.
Design pieced improvisationally from cotton fabric. Freehand quilted on a home sewing machine using wavy lines. Variegated cotton thread used in quilting. Hanging sleeve and rod included. Easily hangs from two small nails in the wall.
Care: Avoid direct sunlight. Use a lint roller for light cleaning.
