Sheila Fernekes

"I find the ancient art of bead weaving to be spiritual and invigorating. One by one, each bead is interconnected, spanning time and space. The beads sing, and I listen to their harmonies. Rhythms pulse. The pulse becomes a heartbeat and the beads spring to life. Together, we push boundaries, explore new horizons, and dance."

Sheila Fernekes compares designing her art jewelry to composing music. Inspired by dynamic rhythms and harmonic progressions, she integrates her signature multi-layered bead weaving with polymer clay, wire, semiprecious stones, and non-traditional materials to create elegant compositions that are easy to wear and effortlessly bold.

Sheila Fernekes creates her contemporary jewelry using ancient Native American and African bead weaving techniques, weaving and layering each bead one at a time to achieve the interplay of color, pattern, and texture that has become her trademark. Her current work explores the parallels, contrasts, and variations that she can achieve by manipulating woven beads and other materials.

Fernekes earned her fine arts and art education degrees from Rutgers University. She also pursued graphic design at School of Visual Arts and Parsons School of Design, after which she worked as a graphic designer for two decades. During travels to New Mexico, she discovered bead weaving and knew she had found her calling. She then taught herself traditional techniques, modifying them to create her contemporary jewelry.

Beautiful and as pictured

I love the color combination of this bracelet and it is so well made. The magnetic clasp is secure with a low profile that can be done by one's self -- and it does come with easy instructions. Very pleased with this wearable art piece.

Exquisite

I have done beadwork. I also have a 6" wrist, which is not always easy to fit. This bracelet is perfect, and was worth it to me for the bead choices, and the unusual magnetic closure. The colors are all of those I love, the fit is supremely comfortable, and the clasp, once understood, is not only functional, but very secure. Kudos to Sheila for a unique bracelet that I will be wearing often. It matches all of the blue-greens in my jewelry box, and my favorite clothing.

My new favorite

This bracelet is so beautiful I can hardly find words to express how delighted I am with it. I've been wearing it constantly since the day it arrived. The workmanship is top-notch; the pattern is elegant and captivating; the clasp is ingenious and works well. And it is so comfortable that I forget that I'm wearing it and have slept with it still on repeatedly. Oh, and the photo above is absolutely accurate. I have a six-inch wrist and bought the 6.5" bracelet, which fits perfectly.
