Strong on statement-making appeal, this console is made from reclaimed metal that the artists hand cut and weld to form the base's commanding shape. A slab of reclaimed barn wood serves as the rustic counterpart to the bold foundation. This wood top is in its primitive state with minimal finishing to the wood to preserve its natural, aged character.

Each piece will have its own subtle differences; they are cut, hammered, and built by hand. The weathered steel has its own imperfections. No two pieces of metal will wear alike.

Ben and Kate Gatski are self-taught artists who love using simple tools to make handmade, authentic pieces of art. They live and work on a hilltop in rural Pennsylvania. There, they handcraft sculpture and furniture with reclaimed materials (weathered steel and barn wood) and raise their three children. They established Gatski Metal in 2003.

Ben and Kate collect raw materials from scraps yards and other assorted junk piles. They work together to imagine and create unique pieces of art. Ben builds the pieces in the shop, using mostly hand-held cutters, hammers, a roller and a welder. Kate assists with the designing process, and shares their art with the world. They are a true husband and wife team.

Ben began welding at the age of thirteen, when he was given a welder by his father. He began experimenting with welding pieces of farm equipment together. At the age of nineteen, he was building small birds and other sculptures for family friends. He has been creating artwork ever since. Aside from a vocational welding short course, he is entirely self taught.

Love it! Even better in person!

I have been eyeing this piece for a while and am thrilled that I finally decided to go for it! It is beautiful and so unique - I've already gotten many compliments!

Bit disappointed

I was so excited to receive this console but my excitement was very short lived as when I unboxed the console I discovered that the legs ( bottom) is not balanced and is wobbling a lot. With this my wobbling I can't even risk to put a case or a lamp or any other decor piece on this console. Really disappointed ??

Love My Tanle

My table arrived this week. It was wonderfully crated, and I was so excited and nervous while it was being opened I seldom pay in full for anything ahead of time . I was thrilled as each piece of crate was being removed. The table is beautiful - just as described in the magazine. The artist had sent a pic ahead of time, and I made a slight change in the color of the wood - so it is perfect. The artists even enclosed a personal note. ArtfulHome kept me informed throughout the whole process Very pleased
