Born in southern Japan, Mieko Mintz uses handcrafted textiles from around the world to make contemporary pieces. Her signature line includes jackets made from vintage sari kantha, each with its own variety of colors and its own story.

Mintz's work follows in the kantha tradition. First, her designs are made into kantha throws in West Bengal, which she then cuts to fit her jacket designs. Her focus is a kantha line that is not only comfortable, but also contemporary and sophisticated.

Cuttings left over from making the jackets are recycled one more time to create hats, bags, and jewelry.

Kantha necklace

I have looked at the necklaces for so long and decided to finally order. I thought it would be too big for me but was happy to see that it is a statement piece and the only jewelry you need to wear are earrings (or not). I have the black, gray, white, red colors in the beads or poofs. Since I wear a lot of black and white in Florida, it will be around my neck a lot. It arrives in a fabric pouch and she includes a note. So happy to support Mieko!

Beautifully Unique

After purchasing this style necklace in the rainbow colors, I felt that since I just about live in black clothing, I should get a second one in black. The actual necklace is different from the picture in that the beads on this one are graduated unlike the rainbow one where the sizes are mixed. I can't decide which design I like better, so I'm keeping both. I've received many compliments on the rainbow and look forward to more of the same with the black. Both are so light and airy that you don't even feel them around your neck. The length is perfect for me as well. Highly recommend that you give this necklace a try-they come in many different colors, so there is something for everyone. Very artsy and unique for sure.

My favorite!

I have purchased 5 of these necklaces. Three for myself and two for gifts. I adore them! They are so unique that I constantly get complements whenever I wear them. I sent one to my cousin in Sweden as a thank you for entertaining me as a house guest and she was equally entranced. These are the best investments I have made in jewelry. I own the black multi, tourquoise multi and the fuschia. Love them all but the blue is my personal favorite.
