After a fifty-year career in ceramics and painting, Leslie Green recently began to devote herself exclusively to painting, the medium that allows her the full freedom and flexibility to create an image and see it evolve. As she explores color, mass, form, and energy, she keeps coming back to her attachment to line and its expressive qualities. An epiphany happened when she saw herself painting lines of diverging energy and realized that the trees and branches she constantly gazed at out her windows were claiming a voice and directing her work.
Becoming a master potter over many years taught Green, among other things, discipline, patience, perseverance, and how to draw a beautiful line in space. These qualities carry over into the colorful world of painting.
The viewer has several ways into her paintings: images reminiscent of the body, of trees, of fractured mineralized rock and dream-like landscapes. She offers a path to which the viewer can bring their own history, experience, and feelings, to free their right brain, so to speak, upon engaging with her work.
