The challenge and difficulty of glass blowing captured Richard's attention pushing him to create his glass work.
Each piece of Richard's glass work is hand blown, then sculpted freehand from the inside and outside of the bubble. Glass colors are layered hot during the blowing process.
Richard Ryan earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in glass from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2000. He also attended classes at Penland School of Craft and Corning Museum of Glass.

This stunning green octopus really does look like it's floating weightlessly in the current. The colors are fabulous with pretty green tentacles with yellow spots, and very pale blue on the underside. I was impressed by how substantial and weighty it feels, but looks so graceful. It sits on a black metal stand and feels very stable there. Very unique mounting. I just received it and have had many compliments from guests in my home, already. I just enjoy looking at it. The motion it has is very impressive. This is going to be a forever favorite of mine.
This fabulous octopus is so creative and artistic. The colors are rich and vibrant, and it looks like it is in motion. It is much more substantial and heavy than I expected. It sits on the stand beautifully - a unique means of mounting a glass piece like this. It looks great on a black marble table in my home, but I think it would look great on any surface.
What a stunning piece of art. We work at an aquarium and this octopus is a perfect addition to our collection. Beautifully made and glazed - I purchased the green. Surprisingly heavy so I'm not worried about it tipping over.
I am very pleased with my green octopus! It is beautifully and carefully wrought and does real justice to the species it depicts. I will give it to my scuba-diving daughter who adores the octopus and who will treasure this work of art.
