Amanda Taylor
Amanda Taylor creates work that celebrates the natural beauty of the hills and mountains where she has lived and traveled throughout Canada, the USA, and various areas around the world. Her love of the outdoors and photography inspires her to create unique interpretations in kiln-formed glass.
Taylor designs each piece using her own photographs and watercolor paintings. Her detailed, layered imagery is created solely from glass—she uses no enamels or paints. Each piece is fired several times in a kiln to fuse the layers of glass into a final sculptural work of art.
Taylor was born and raised near the Canadian Rockies in Calgary, Alberta. She has been working with different art materials and techniques since her late teens, and has been working primarily with kiln-formed glass since 1994. She has studied with and been mentored by many glass artists from around the world. In 2008, she and her husband, Lance Taylor, opened OATKA School of Glass and Glass Studio in upstate New York. Today, she creates work and teaches at this location as well as a studio in the Cattail Creek community near Asheville, NC.
