Inspired by traditional Bargello quilting techniques, this mixed-media collage was created using a variety of decorative, vintage screen-printed paper and vintage newspaper, as well as sheet music. Carol Lehmann cut, tore, and sewed the elements together before assembling and mounting; the finished collage is sealed and protected with a acrylic gel and displays incised detailing to accentuate specific shapes within the paper. Mounted in a black float frame, it's signed on the back and ready to hang.

"Cut, tear, melt, pound, crush, bend, crumple, twist, burn, steam, cool, then bring it all together to create a uniquely crafted piece of art."

Carol truly believe that the art of craft is not just a nice activity; it transforms, connects, and empowers her to explore different mediums and techniques without reserve. The artistry of craft makes her feel so fundamentally satisfied by using her hands to manipulate materials, make use of tools that extend her abilities. Her inspiration comes from life&m,dash;an encounter, a moment captured or a glimpse of something undefined. Carols translate these things into created works that speak to the heart of a viewer.

Many layers of heated wax are applied to wood panels and fused after each layer with a torch, heat gun, or iron. Texture is created by gouging, scraping, and building up additional layers, producing images of landscapes and other natural scenes.

Carol has considered herself an artist from a very early age. Largely self taught, she continually attends various workshops, explores different mediums, and experiments with the ways they can be manipulated to produce something visually appealing.
