Bohrman Sculpture
Sculptor Catherine Bohrman feels that creating a sculpture is the process of solving the puzzle of expressing an idea or emotion with form. She loves to see the piece progress from thoughts in her head to flowing lines in the sculpture. Not only must one have patience and skill but sculpting is both very physically and mentally demanding.
Bohrman first translates her ideas into 3D form in her studio. She sculpts in plaster and stone. Once the piece is finished, she makes a urethane mold of it and from that a wax replica. She then works carefully on each wax and once satisfied takes it to her foundry to be cast using the lost wax process. The whole creative process takes months but results in a beautiful cast bronze sculpture.
Bohrman lives in northern CA. She grew at her dad's side in his studio in Western MA surrounded by his stained glass and her great-uncle's, a noted sculptor, maquettes. Her hands were always busy, exploring material and learning. She studied mechanical engineering and art at Stanford U. With her love of art and zeal for creating 3D works she easily found her life's passion for sculpting.
