This lovely ceramic birdhouse is wheel-thrown and hand-built, then trimmed and adorned with organic elements; ventilation holes are drilled and the piece is set to dry. Finally, it's kiln-fired and then glazed with a metallic bronze, cold patina, resulting in its pleasing verdigris finish.

Each has a removeable, wheel-thrown bottom finial that can be removed for ease of interior cleaning—the finial locks into place with a twist via tabs that line up with slots on the base of the birdhouse. Sealed three times for protection from the elements, this artful birdhouse is ready to bring style and function to your garden!

Kelly and Shane Roach
"As we started working with clay it just made sense. To be able to take something like clay that has no shape, no form, no value and to make it into something that affects people is really special."

Shane and Kelly Roach create ceramic pieces for outdoor and indoor use including birdhouses, lanterns, bells, and garden sculptures. Desiring strong artistic pieces for their own gardens, they set their attention to creating unique works of art that compliments the natural environment while maintaining a strong presence.

The Roach’s work combines wheel and hand-built elements that are shaped, carved, and sculpted. Natural themes and stories permeate their work. A cold process is utilized to create an aged brass or bronze patinaed finish. Pieces are then treated with several layers of sealant to preserve the finish and protect against the natural elements.

Though Kelly and Shane have no formal art training, they both come from creative backgrounds. Shane works as a video producer, and Kelly has a background in interior design and painting. After enrolling in ceramics classes at their local museum they discovered a new passion.
