The realm of ceramic art is vast. Daniel Slack, a longtime traveler there, began his journey in the arena of functional wares, progressed onward to vessel art, and has now found his way into ceramic figure sculpture.

Inspired and delighted by his muse, a border collie heeler named June, Slack is currently making work all about dogs. Effortlessly and without a shred of guile, June provides a stream of fresh material.

Every dog sculpture is one of a kind. They are hand built from earthenware and terra-cotta clays and then fired in a kiln. After that comes glazing, part two of the process, which is equally challenging because it can make or break a piece. Vases, cups, and bowls continue to be part of Slack's repertoire, like songs on a previous record. But the dogs, led by June, are out in front.

Nice simple yet elegant design that's also symmetrical. The glaze is what really shines and stands out. Daniel has an eye for appealing patinas that go beyond a basic glaze without becoming overdone or distracting. The shape and finish come together perfectly! Thank you for sharing your talent.

BEAUTIFUL TURQUOISE BOWL

I originally ordered the dark blue bowl as a wedding gift, but it arrived with a piece chipped off. I was leaving the next evening for the wedding. My husband was coming up the following day. My replacement bowl arrived in time for my husband to bring it with him. When I saw it I realized the turquoise was the better color for my sister since she loves turquoise jewelry. Customer service on the artist's end and from Artful Home was impeccable. I will buy again and probably from this artist, Daniel Slack!
