Jenifer Thoem
Jenifer Thoem's work is driven by her need to find simplicity and inspiration in the world around her. She captures urban and environmental textures in clay—objects so common that they often go unnoticed. With the use of such objects, Thoem hopes to provoke a connection, to spark a memory, or to urge a reflection and stillness that is not easily executed in today's world.
Thoem uses high-fire stoneware and porcelain clays to create both framed and unframed wall installation pieces. Her work is hand built and kiln fired multiple times using slips, stains, and glazes on highly textured surfaces. By permanently attaching a steel wire stem to the back of each individual ceramic piece, she is able to integrate depth and shadow into the design of her work.
Thoem grew up on a farm in North Georgia, where her love of clay and desire to build things began. It was only natural that she would go on to earn a BFA in ceramics from Georgia Southern University. Her current body of work is a result of several cross-country moves, her need to glean inspiration from new environments, and her love of the simple and complex working in tandem.

Bringers of joy. I came to Artful Home looking for glass art, but this is what caught my eye first. After much dithering - not whether to buy or not, but where to install, my sister helped me decide where to place this wonderful art piece(s). I just love it. These birds are in the foyer of my home, welcoming family and friends into the house. The artist took great care in packing and providing clear instructions for installation. While I know I bought these birds, the notes and care by the artist makes it seem more like she is gifting them to me (which she is!). They were very easy to install. The most difficult part was carefully cutting away the template. Which wasn't hard, and honestly, the cat loved that part, because there was now all this fun paper to sit on. Now that they're up, I'm contemplating buying additional birds to carry the flow into rest of house.
We were so happy to welcome these birds into our home! Carefully packed, with personal notes from artist Jenifer, and excellent detailed instructions for installation. We had the birds on the wall in no time, and have enjoyed them ever since. Thanks for offering this unique piece.
The birds in flight have been the perfect wall decor for a curved wall in our home. They are unique and fun! the directions for installation were just right. I highly recommend!
What a beautiful piece! The family loves it. Each bird is unique. A lot of love went into this. The instructions were spot on and the artistic markings on the box and instructions were special.
