Charlotte Gibb

"I pour everything I know about photography, art, and design into offering new ways of seeing the landscape. My "Intimate Landscapes" reflect a deep affection for the natural world. The scale is small, humble, and, like poetry, it is the kind of photograph that gets better with repeated viewing, drawing out emotions as the deeper meaning is understood."

Charlotte's photographs are frequently symbolic, with an eye oriented towards the subtle and sometimes overlooked elements of nature. Her photographs are not meant to be pretty postcards, but rather frames that celebrate form, line, shape, color, and texture. She returns to both familiar and secret places again and again to observe the changes brought about by the seasons, light, and weather.

The complex process that begins with an idea and a camera in hand is not complete until the print, carefully and painstakingly crafted, is finished. Charlotte carefully considers every creative decision, from conception, composition, and exposure to processing and printing. Prints are made with a specialized large format printer using the highest quality archival paper and inks available.

Charlotte earner her Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Throughout her long career as an artist, her photography evolved from a somewhat journalistic approach to one that pays tribute to the natural world. She takes inspiration from the photographic works of Eliot Porter and Ansel Adams, but also great painters, such as Claude Monet.
