Cindy A Stephens
Cindy Stephens' Water Abstracts is an ongoing photography series that explores the interplay between light, color, and movement. It was fueled by her tendency to examine vistas from multiple viewpoints—inside-out and outside-in. This portfolio features painterly artistry with expressive coloring, reflecting a desire to create delicate photographic abstractions inspired by a painter’s watercolor impressionism. Through subtle references to what is reflected, nature-inspired colors, and fluid motion, the art invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the image, revealing more layers of perspective.
Stephens honed her technical skills by developing black-and-white prints in the wet darkroom. Perhaps this is why she generally makes minimal adjustments to digitally captured photographs, preferring to seize the moment while photographing.
Her work has been exhibited in group shows across New England, including the Brush Art Gallery, Cambridge Art Association, Danforth Museum of Art, and Galatea Fine Arts. In 2010, she was excited to be one of 12 artists selected for Exposure, the 15th annual PRC Juried Exhibition. Cindy’s work was also featured in the four-artist show, Connections, at the Maine Media Gallery.
