"Traditionally, kantha were supposed to help keep their wearers safe from harm and aid in obtaining happiness and prosperity, all of which Mieko wishes for you."

Born in southern Japan, Mieko Mintz uses handcrafted textiles from around the world to make contemporary pieces. Her signature line includes jackets made from vintage sari kantha, each with its own variety of colors and its own story.

Mintz's work follows in the kantha tradition. First, her designs are made into kantha throws in West Bengal, which she then cuts to fit her jacket designs. Her focus is a kantha line that is not only comfortable, but also contemporary and sophisticated.

Cuttings left over from making the jackets are recycled one more time to create hats, bags, and jewelry.

I didn't want to love this, but I do!!!

This is my second Mieko Mintz dress from Artful Home, and I love them both!! They are really outside my price range, but I know I'll get years of wear out of them. This one is light enough for the hottest summer days, but with the colors I could easily imagine wearing it with tights, boots and a jacket in fall and winter!! I am a chesty size 14, and I like the fit of the size 2. No issues with the colors or the fabric on the bottom that other reviewers have mentioned!! Love it!!

Beautiful patterns and colours

I love the dress. It fits beautifully and the workmanship is great. You can't really specify the colours or patterns that you will get but I was very happy with mine. It also looks good with a 3/4 sleeve Tshirt. And capri leggings under for cooler days. All good! Thanks Meiko! I was very impressed with the lovely little cloth bag that the dress came in - so much so that I opened it up and made a scarf which looks great with the dress.
