Tanya Monique Jewelry
"My work utilizes contrasts in color, material, and form representative of my identity as I move through landscapes."

Tanya Crane is known for her exploratory approach to jewelry, one that reflects her personal history, the influence of industrial sites, traditional craft practices, and a wide range of cultural and historical interests. Her extensive knowledge of enameling and metalsmithing techniques is reflected in her innovative graphic designs and the textures she is able to achieve in her jewelry pieces.

Crane uses bold contrasts of color in enamel to create repetitive marks on the surface of metal. She often pairs these enamel pieces with objects found in nature, both in their raw state and refined. She further manipulates the work by creating a textured top layer of enamel that both reflects light and obtains a granular surface.

Tanya Crane is a Southern California native living and working in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a professor of the practice in metals at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Crane received her MFA in metalsmithing and jewelry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015 and her BFA in metal from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
