Jan R. Carson
Jan R. Carson's art is rooted in transformation, in the motions of growing, shifting, and becoming. Through ephemeral forms like tree leaves or the gradient colors of seasonal change, she captures the delicate balance of beauty and disintegration.
Carson developed her own techniques for creating mobiles from silk fabric and fine gauge stainless steel wire. Her designs reveal a technical fascination with the structural aspects of nature. Originating from a background in sewing and fibers, Carson’s work brings an inimitable lightness and delicacy to the form of kinetic sculpture.
From her studio in Colorado, Jan has created site-specific aerial sculptures for Kaiser Permanente, Centura Health, Rideout Cancer Center, and others. She exhibits regularly and her works are included in permanent collections of the City of Loveland, University of Virginia Health System, and Texas State University.
