Brian Asquith
UK-born and now residing in Cleveland, Ohio, Brian emigrated to the US as a materials scientist, and is now a lawyer. By night, he retreats into the world of nature, hoping to express his concern for the planet through his art. With nature fast disappearing, coupled with humanity disconnected therefrom, he hopes his art causes a momentary pause “What are we doing to this planet?”
Brian Asquith’s approach isn’t watercolor-typical, but rather comprises applying multiple layers to create an image having bold, colorful, 3-dimensional qualities. Given the approach, a piece may take many weeks to create, often taking longer to create than the lifetime of the subject. He pursues realism in his art, but may apply artistic license to create entities that may not be found in nature, particularly through vibrant colors and patterning. High-quality materials and papers are used. He also works with ink, charcoal, and multi-media.
His art has been shown in the Butler Institute of American Art (Youngstown, Ohio), the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and in the summer of 2026, he has a 4 month-long solo show at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens. Based on the positive reactions to his art, he decided to pursue it more seriously and recently opened the V&A Gallery in Cleveland.
