"My paintings develop as a personal language. I honor a thought by making a mark on the canvas. I do not have to know why that mark must be made and I intentionally seek no control. My process has been defined by art critics as a "Glossolalia," a language of its own. My mentor once implored, "Paint your passion!" I paint giving voice to my passion, attending to an Inward/Outward Spiritual Journey."

Amy Cannady experienced the joy of growing up in both rural Indiana and Dallas TX. She has been deeply influenced by nature and relationships, as evidenced in her abstract paintings. Cannady's most noted artistic influences are Joan Mitchell, Philip Guston, Cy Twombly, and David Smith. Her philosophical influences are Sartre, Kierkegaard, Bonhoeffer, and Merton.

Through a reduction and layering process, line and form emerge, seeming to disappear into obscurity. There is a sense of time and space. Alluding to life's mysteries and ambiguities, nothing is clearly seen. An explosion and serenity may exist within one work. There will surely be different interpretations of that which is seen. That which is unseen is either intellectualized or intuitively understood.

Cannady has a BFA from Southern Methodist University, where she also completed Post Graduate studies in Art. After painting in Santa Fe, Naples, and the Midwest, she now paints at her Dallas studio. Cannady is represented by art galleries in Chicago, Indianapolis, and Nashville. Her work is in collections throughout The Americas and Europe.
