Not only does she infuse her paintings with nature's radiance, but by pairing familiar objects with surreal forms, she challenges the viewer to see the world through her eyes, to reinterpret the everyday, to embrace the spiritual, and to revel in glorious color.
Fluent with oils, acrylics, and gouache, Troup creates paintings that are richly built up in many layers. She creates a beautiful narrative with an illusion of 3-D space, which draws the viewer into her world. Troup approaches her work like a sculptor or set designer, visualizing every form in three dimensions before she paints it.
Jane Troup grew up in the mountains of Pennsylvania where she remembers her best moments exploring the woods, hills, ponds, and creeks and collecting leaves, bones, mosses, and rocks. She moved to the urban metropolis to attend art college, then continued her education in Washington, D.C. by going to museums and galleries and developing friendships with other artists. Today, she lives in an enchanted landscape in the Ozark mountains of southwestern Missouri. Her studio is perched on a tall hill, and through her windows are vistas of rolling hills covered with mysterious forests and open fields.
