Kim Larsen

"My work is a synthesis of my experiences in the world, my memories and my imagination. Inspiration comes from what I see, touch, hear, and feel when I am outdoors – the graceful curve of a vine wrapping itself around a branch, the strange but beautiful blossoming of fungi on a dead log, or the shapely seeds produced by trees."

Larsen has a magical way with objects from nature, such as twigs, seeds, vines, and lichen. Her work taps into the childlike curiosity deeply buried in many people. Working with reclaimed 22k and 18k gold, sterling silver, and bronze, then adding natural stones in a myriad of colors and patterns, she creates her own stories that are mysterious, beautiful, and timeless.

The process of creating is what Kim Larsen loves most – sketching, carving wax, lost wax casting, milling, soldering, molding, fabricating, oxydizing, setting the stones, and finally finishing the pieces.

Kim Larsen studied art history at Yale and received her MFA from Boston University in collage and graphic design. Working as a designer/marketer for 12 years led to co-founding two media startups in wine and women's sports over 14 years. After having a baby at 50, she decided to study classical goldsmithing at the 92Y in New York. She started Kim Larsen in 2022 and studies under Janice Grzyb.
