The simple leaf form is enhanced with 24k gold. This piece is made from sterling silver to which 24k gold is applied using the keum-bo process. The silver is textured, oxidized and selectively polished to create a striking tri-color pendant.  The pendant measures approximately 1.75 inches long by 1.25 inch wide. A sterling silver tendril bail attaches the pendant to your choice of a 16 inch or 18 inch sterling silver omega chain neck wire.

"I’ve always thought of jewelry as wearable art. For me, wearing beautifully handcrafted jewelry is a way to express my individuality and to reflect my love of art."

Melanie’s jewelry is inspired by forms found in the natural world. As an avid gardener and plant collector living in rural Vermont, she is surrounded by natural beauty. Her work is greatly influenced by botanical shapes, landscape formations, and cosmic patterns. Her aesthetic is contemporary, abstract and graphic, her pieces exhibit a strong sense of texture, shape and motion.

Working in her Vermont studio, each piece begins with either sterling silver sheet or wire. The metal is cut, formed, and meticulously finished. Many of her pieces feature colored gemstones, and 24K gold which is applied using the ancient Korean technique of Keum-boo. Melanie also uses patina to accentuate the form and texture of her pieces.

After spending years as a photographer and web designer, Melanie began exploring metalsmithing in 2017. Driven by her love of art jewelry, and her desire to work with tangible materials and tools, she began studying with accomplished metalsmiths and educators, and since then has worked full time as a jeweler.
