This striking cabinet is handmade with reclaimed metal. The artists hand draw the pattern on the metal with soapstone and cut it with a hand held plasma cutter. They then weld it into shape. The color is hand-painted with milk paint, giving the piece a naturally uneven and textured finish. A clear finish is applied to the entire piece.

The top surface of this cabinet is made with a new piece of 11 gauge steel.

There are two interior heavy metal shelves in this cabinet, and they can be placed in different locations.

Each piece will have its own subtle differences; they are cut, hammered, and built by hand.

Gatski Metal
"We see beauty and inspiration in our surrounding landscape, our rural lifestyle, and the reclaimed. And we want to share that with you. Our home and shop sit at the top of a hill, overlooking forest and fields. We often find ourselves creating pieces based on what we see (or can imagine) before us. We believe in bringing you (our customers) pieces that make you happy and that you can enjoy forever. Each Gatski piece is built to last so it can be a part of your story for a long time to come. "

Ben and Kate Gatski are self-taught artists who love using simple tools to make handmade, authentic pieces of art. They live and work on a hilltop in rural Pennsylvania. There, they handcraft sculpture and furniture with reclaimed materials (weathered steel and barn wood) and raise their three children. They established Gatski Metal in 2003.

Ben and Kate collect raw materials from scraps yards and other assorted junk piles. They work together to imagine and create unique pieces of art. Ben builds the pieces in the shop, using mostly hand-held cutters, hammers, a roller and a welder. Kate assists with the designing process, and shares their art with the world. They are a true husband and wife team.

Ben began welding at the age of thirteen, when he was given a welder by his father. He began experimenting with welding pieces of farm equipment together. At the age of nineteen, he was building small birds and other sculptures for family friends. He has been creating artwork ever since. Aside from a vocational welding short course, he is entirely self taught.

We love the cabinet!

It tool a couple months from order to delivery but it was worth the wait.
It's a spectacular piece, even better in person than the picture.
It's really gave the room some personality and a very completed look.

Cabinet is gorgeous

Love the cabinet--it sets off the room completely. The ONLY thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars was the delivery process. The cabinet itself is utterly gorgeous.

Talented Craftsman

I love the piece I purchased and Ben's craftsmanship. Thank you Ben for making this and sharing and blessing individuals such as myself with this work of art. My home is filled with several pieces of art from all around the world and yours is one of my favorite pieces that completes my collection. I am honored to display it in my home.

The perfect cabinet

At first I wasn't sure a cabinet made from reclaimed metal from scrap yards would work in our modern contemporary home, but then I thought about it for a moment and realized it would be perfect. I especially love the design, blue color, and its functionally. The dimensions are perfect; exactly what I needed. I wanted to create an espresso bar in our home, but was limited on space, so the cabinet had to be perfect in every way. Now that we have our espresso bar all set-up, it truly looks like I had the cabinet commissioned and had Ben and Kate design and create it for us. We could not be happier!
