Lisa and Scott Cylinder

Chickenscratch
"In a time when personal interactions are at a minimum, our jewelry creates a narrative that invites conversations through stories, humor, and clever anecdotes. This human aspect gives the work a warmth that is sometimes nostalgic, often curious, and usually joyful."

Lisa and Scott Cylinder began Chickenscratch Jewelry in 1988. The ideas for their jewelry are derived from nature, modern art, folklore, and pop culture, blending these influences into clever narratives and plays-on-words. Most importantly, their work is a collaboration on many levels: a blend of inspirations and sources, of observation and imagination, and of two people's ideas and techniques.

Lisa and Scott Cylinder create each piece individually in their home studio using simple processes, some of which are unique to them. Their work is made using mostly base metals (which are silver soldered, cleverly cold joined, and often kinetic) along with a multitude of other materials and finishes. Chickenscratch Jewelry is truly mixed media and constructed to last a lifetime.

Lisa and Scott Cylinder met while pursuing BFAs in jewelry/metals from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. While Scott was pursuing his MFA, Lisa worked for numerous craftspeople, learning the ropes of production studio jewelry. Upon Scott's completion of study, they decided to pool their respective knowledge to start Chickenscratch in 1988. They are still students of art, nature, and literature.

Too Cute for Words

These bird earrings are just amazing! I make jewelry, too, and so appreciate the details and (more than that) the sense of humor the creator has. Can't wait to show them off!

Really adorable

These earrings are really cute and well made. They will get good attention. What I don't understand is why, given the price point, the wires for the earrings are so cheap. They are not particularly expensive, even nicer ones, so why cheap out with these?
