Kim Eubank

The Metal Quilt
"Enamel is a lustrous, luminous, and wonderfully challenging medium. I love the sensuous melting of hot glass on cold, hard copper. The kiln work can be exhausting, but you can't get really beautiful work without a little suffering. "

Kim Eubank calls her work the "Metal Quilt." She is influenced by the geometric greats: Mondrian, Mark Rothko, Frank Lloyd Wright, and the architect Hundertwasser. Eubank draws from her years in jewelry making to create the many individual enameled tiles that comprise each piece.

Eubank constructs her wall hangings from enameled copper. Eubank hand cuts each piece from a roll of 22-gauge coiled copper. She designs the layout in bare copper on a wooden canvas. She the individually enamels each piece by sifting dry, powdered glass onto the copper and firing them in a 1,500 degree kiln. The mounting method used makes each piece lightweight enough to hang on any wall.

The artist trained at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Eubank has a B.A. in crafts, specializing in jewelry and glass, and has stretched the limits of traditional enameling through experimentation and countless hours of practice.

One-of-a-Kind Beautiful

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, you are the most beautiful of all. The mirror will own the wall in which it is placed. You will not want any competition for the eye. It is solid. Don't hesitate because of the price. It's too beautiful to be a whiner if you appreciate fine art. It doesn't strike me as art deco, more contemporary. The border tiles are the stand-put nature of the piece. Lovely colors. Even more so than the displayed photo in the Artful Home magazine.

Absolutely gorgeous

What a work of art! This is now the focal point in my newly renovated bathroom. The picture is pretty, but the real deal is even better. Thanks, Artful Home and my regards to the artist.
