This triptych presents the Florida Keys as a sweeping aerial abstraction. Precision-milled from solid 6061 aluminum, the island chain is left in polished relief against a richly patinated background of ocean-inspired blues and greens. Textural details and subtle color variations evoke the surrounding waters, while a satin lacquer finish preserves the work's depth, brilliance, and contemporary appeal.

Rickard Studio
"I'm happiest when my work makes people smile. "

At his mountain studio surrounded by the natural beauty of Taos, New Mexico, artist Bob Rickard enjoys challenging the immutable properties of metal. He indulges his love of geometry, movement, and color as he strives to stretch the use of industrial tools beyond their intended uses. His aesthetic is also influenced by the natural setting that lays beyond his studio windows, giving his work a sense of quiet beauty and calm.

Rickard uses a hand-held plasma cutter to carve his designs into aluminum. He then coats the aluminum with other metals, typically copper, bronze, and iron. Each of these metals reacts differently to the chemical patinas and dye oxides with which he finishes his pieces. The synergy of these techniques results in work that is striking in its complexity and beauty.
