An abstract owl perches among columns, arches, and steps in this handcrafted wall sculpture, its curves echoing the architecture around it. Hammered by hand from a single sheet of copper—high points pushed up from behind, recesses driven down from the front—the relief carries a rich texture of tool marks beneath a dark brown and black patina. Sealed with museum-grade wax, the living finish will slowly evolve over time. Ready to hang and signed on the back.

Jeremy Maronpot

"I consider myself a metalsmith rather than a metalworker because I don’t just cut and join metal, I move and reshape it. For me, it’s about transforming the material, not just building with it. The ability to be reshaped yet remain permanent is what draws me to metal. It seems so fixed and unyielding, yet it can be stretched and formed as if it were clay."

Jeremy Maronpot creates handcrafted metal art and sculpture by blending centuries-old techniques with contemporary design. His work is biomorphic and tactile, shaped in a way that feels grown rather than constructed. It has a classical feel and an organic aesthetic, often drawing from patterns and forms found in nature.

Working with copper, bronze, and other malleable metals, Jeremy shapes each piece using hand tools and traditional metalsmithing methods. Techniques such as forging, embossing, and repoussé push the metal into dimensional relief, creating physical depth and richly textured surfaces. Traditional patination techniques are then applied to develop color, surface variation, and character.

Jeremy Maronpot has been creating metal artwork since the late 1990s, including more than a decade focused on commissioned work for individuals and local businesses. Jeremy Maronpot earned a BFA in Art with a concentration in Metal Design from East Carolina University in 2001, and continued training through studio-based workshops, and by working under artists Andrew Preiss and Alvin Frega.
