Derived from an original sketch, this evocative scribble was inspired by flowers in a vase and has been reinterpreted in cold-pressed steel. Crafted with meticulous care, the steel undergoes an oxidation process, culminating in a sleek black patina. This not only wards off rust but also preserves the metal's inherent character and texture. A protective clear coat is then applied for an added layer of safeguarding. Installation is effortless, as the piece is affixed directly to the wall via metal dowels through three discreet drill holes.

Paul Arsenault

"My sculptures are all about the beauty of line. I strive to faithfully recreate the immediacy and intimacy of pencil drawings from my sketchbook in metal."

Arsenault strives to capture the quirky and unexpected, either holding onto formal elements and techniques, or rejecting them when the rules require breaking. In his work, playful experimentation and happy accidents meet formal rigors, evoking freshness and a sense of visual intrigue.

Paul Arsenault's ''Metal Sketches'' open his sketchbook to the world. What begins as an intimate, personal sketch is transformed into sculpture through a multi-step process, finally rendered in sheet metal and displayed on the wall. Each ''Metal Sketch'' sits 2 inches from the wall, creating intricate shadows as the light changes.

Paul Arsenault graduated with honors from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in 2000. He received an MA in fine art from Cambridge School of Art in Cambridge, UK in 2016. He works out of a studio building in Somerville, MA as well as a metal shop in Rhode Island.
