The black wave at the top of of this work sets the tone for this nautically themed, collaged painting. The shape on the right recalls a sunken statue—or perhaps a wine jug—recalling ancient sea journeys. Created on a collaged base, over painted with acrylic and oil pigment stick and accented by surface drawing, it's mounted on a dark charcoal grey-painted wood cradle and is ready to hang.

"I'm drawn to the mystery of abstraction—the need to look closely, to wonder and think about what may be happening. I use whatever captures my attention as inspiration—an intuitive process that reveals fragments of subject or story as the work progresses. "

Sara Post's paintings are conjunctions of shapes, marks, lines, and color—images that move across the surface in cropped compositions. She considers each piece to be a momentary glimpse into an atmosphere or experience; a way to be still and briefly stop time.

Sara Post's oil and cold wax mixed-media paintings are multi-layered abstractions. She creates textured surfaces with layered collage elements, oil sticks, powdered pigments, sand, and incised lines. Post's use of color creates subtle and unexpected relationships among neutrals and more intense, saturated shades. She paints on Arches oil paper or cradled board coated with gesso or thinset cement. Her pigment prints are created from her original oil and wax or watercolor pieces. They are printed with archival inks on Hahnemuhle photo rag paper.

Post studied ceramics with an emphasis on natural materials at Northern Arizona University. She and her husband, Thomas Post, operated T.S. Post Ceramics in Davis, California from 1981–2005, producing sculptural and functional pieces and ceramic wall works. Post began her current work in oil and cold wax mixed-media painting in 2010. She is an instructor of abstract painting and drawing at the Davis Art Center in Davis, California and offers abstract mixed-media workshops in Davis and at the Mendocino Art Center.
