Inspired by a trip to Acadia National Park in Maine, this mixed-media fabric collage features a hiker walking through the peaceful woods along a gently flowing stream. The composition is first sketched onto the canvas with charcoal. Next, beautifully patterned fabrics are cut and glued onto the canvas, followed by an overlay of acrylic paints. Gallery-wrapped canvas with painted sides.

Lynne Feldman

"I have made art all my life; my art is an expression of who I am and what is important to me. Whether for commissions or for private collections, my work is deeply personal and life-affirming. I want you to have the joy of visually exploring fascinating shapes and resonant colors, and to discover new things about a piece even after you have been looking at it for twenty years."

The mixed-media paintings of Lynne Feldman reflect her love of color, pattern, nature, animals, and the art of indigenous cultures. To her, the composition of each new work is a puzzle that has never been solved before. Working in the medium of fabric collage, she applies paint and fabric to canvas, arranging and re-arranging shape, line, pattern, and color until they all come together in perfect harmony.

Feldman works in two distinct collage motifs. In her "Spirit Works" series, she incorporates found objects (some natural, like sticks and acorns, and others manufactured, like fabrics and bottle caps), glues them onto pieces of wood, and then paints them. In her "Painting with Fabric" series, she glues fabrics from around the world onto canvas and paints them with acrylics.

Lynne Feldman grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She began her formal art training at the age of twelve at the Art Students League of New York. For the next fifteen years, she studied drawing and painting with Marshall Glasier, Norman Lewis, and Vincent Malta. Her major influences include Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Milton Avery, and David Hockney. She holds a master’s degree from Columbia University.
