Judy Hawkins has been drawn to and fascinated by the evolution of a tree from seed to decomposition. She has been photographing "elderly" trees for years. The woods around her rural Vermont house has abandoned orchards and old maples. Trees that she photographed last fall are now organic piles on the earth. "Old Soul" is one of Hawkins' newest paintings, an old maple tree with mushrooms and decomposition. Painted on gallery-wrapped canvas with painted sides and ready to hang. An archival varnish has been applied to protect the paintings vibrant colors.

Judy Hawkins paints bold and colorful landscapes dominated by dramatic clouds and unexpected color. Hawkins begins each oil painting at the top and works her way down, working quickly to establish mood through color and composition. She allows the paint, drips and color combinations to guide her vision for each piece.

Hawkins has painted since she was six years old. She attended Boston University School of Fine Arts, The Brooklyn Museum School, and Windham College, where she majored in art and later taught design and drawing.
