Looking deeper at this oil painting by artist Robin Feld reveals both opaque and glazed layers of paint; wide expanses of color are juxtaposed against more delicate, gestural brushwork, and paint drips are often intentionally incorporated. Featuring nature-based imagery, Feld is particularly inspired by the beautiful geometry of triangular shapes seen in the crisscrossing of tree branches and landscape. On gallery-wrapped canvas with painted sides, it's ready to hang.

Robin Feld

"As an abstract painter, I am interested in what happens in the world of a painting when serenity is invaded by a chaotic jumble of randomness."

To Robin Feld, there are a series of moments that are pivotal in the creation of a painting—and the same can be said in the creation or living of a life. To differing degrees, we go along in our grids, in our bands of color, but inevitably, the unexpected happens and we must cope as best we can.

In that spirit, Feld pours, scrapes, and blots paint, creating a kind of managed chaos. After the rush of adrenaline subsides, it is then her job to meditate on the results and work with them until the painting feels "right." She wants the marks on the canvas to talk to each other, for the layers to interact, for the process of how the painting was built to be apparent.

Robin Feld received a BFA from The City College of New York and later studied abstract painting, design, and composition at The Art Students League of New York. Abstract expressionism, minimalism, and Japanese and Chinese landscape painting and calligraphy are strong influences on Feld's painting, as are the grids and jumbles of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
