Suzanne Siegel

"Regardless of subject, my work is about light, space, and tranquility. I edit what I see into strong shapes and luminous colors to transport the viewer into a moment of peace and beauty."

A disciplined artist, Suzanne Siegel works in her studio or in the field every day, usually from early morning until late afternoon. As she says, "No matter where I am or what I am doing, I am always painting inside my head, looking for inspiration by observing shapes, color and value relationships, and the light--the amazing beauty of light and how it influences everything."

Siegel takes long walks in the landscapes she paints in order to find something that will stop her in her tracks. Then she knows she must pause and consider whether what she sees can be translated into a painting. She works on location with either watercolors or pastels, making sketches and color studies to jog her memory in the studio, where she completes larger paintings.

An award-winning artist, Siegel received her B.F.A. from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, where she received the Stobart Fellowship for excellence in painting. She earned an M.F.A. in visual art from Vermont College and has received awards from the Connecticut Watercolor Society, New Haven Paint and Clay, Connecticut Pastel Society, Pastel Painters of Maine, and the Pastel Society of New Hampshire.
