
Julia Santos Solomon
Julia Santos Solomon is one of the most successful contemporary Dominican artists on the landscape today. Her work is featured in galleries and private collections throughout the world. The bright colors of the Caribbean landscape are an important vehicle for her expression.
Julia Santos Solomon was classically trained, and studied masters Rembrandt, Vermeer, Goya, and Velasquez. Her years in Italy brought beauty, stimulation, and clarity to her work. Rome revealed a shocking tropical palette, turquoise, pinks, yellows, and greens. Her sense of color and use of gold leaf are informed by her Dominican heritage.
Julia Santos Solomon received her BFA in painting from The Rhode Island School of Design, where she participated in the European Honors Program in Rome, Italy. She studied at Parsons School of Design, Cooper Union, and The Art Students League. She has been a professor at the Parsons School of Design,and she is a Founding Faculty member of Altos de Chavon School of Design in La Romana, DR.
