Soft fabric beads are sewn from vintage silk saris, stitched with kantha embroidery, and filled with lightweight cotton batting for a playful, dramatic accessory. Each is unique. Exact patterning and coloration will vary. Limited quantity of 60.

Born in southern Japan, Mieko Mintz uses handcrafted textiles from around the world to make contemporary pieces. Her signature line includes jackets made from vintage sari kantha, each with its own variety of colors and its own story.

Mintz's work follows in the kantha tradition. First, her designs are made into kantha throws in West Bengal, which she then cuts to fit her jacket designs. Her focus is a kantha line that is not only comfortable, but also contemporary and sophisticated.

Cuttings left over from making the jackets are recycled one more time to create hats, bags, and jewelry.

Mieko Mintz does beautiful work as seen in this necklace. It is visually interesting because of the colors and textures in the necklace. It is an ideal gift judging from past reactions to the work of Mintz.

The necklace with its range of colors really brightens up any clothing you have on. It's light and comfortable to wear, a must for any woman who doesn't want to be fussy with a necklace. Love the texture and the range of colors in each bead.

Love These Kantha Necklaces

This is my third kantha necklace from Mieko. My favorite is still the rainbow version, as it is the most versatile. This one in shades of red is very nice, but I felt that the color placement of the 'beads' could have been a little more symmetrical to have a more uniform color grading. When on, one side is dominant red, and the other side has a purple, off-white, and two reds that are the exact same style, stitch for stitch. This is not a complaint, but rather a reason why it will probably not be a favorite. I prefer the beads to be mixed sizes ( the rainbow style) as opposed to being graded. When they are graded, there is only one way to wear the necklace- you can't play with the colors and spin it around although my black kantha is graded and the colors on both sides are perfectly symmetrical. Artful Home had kindly given me a gift card for all the purchases I've made over the years, so I'm keeping the red necklace. With the generous discount, the price is more affordable. It's a lovely piece of jewelry....I just wish I could reposition a few of the colored beads. Maybe it's just my OCD kicking in...lol.
