"I finish my jet with a matte surface in order to reveal the lustrous, satin-like properties hidden within the gem. This dark, velvety surface inspires me. It is in darkness where new growth begins, both in nature and in our psyches."

Vogel is driven by exploring topics of growth and intimacy. Her work references the human body and botany, connecting physical objects to natural cycles of growth. Vogel believes that the simple act of choosing to wear her jewelry can be a catalyst into deeper awareness and self-understanding.

Jet is a lightweight, warm, and earthy black gemstone that Vogel finds inspiring. She combines hand-carved jet with fabricated sterling silver and gold components, often adding a pop of color with gemstones or vitreous enamel. The enamel is powder sifted and kiln fired over fine silver pins that are then set into the carved forms. All pieces are handcrafted in the artist's studio.

Vogel received her BFA in metalsmithing and jewelry from the Maine College of Art in Portland, ME under the direction of Tina Rath, Jeffrey Clancy, and Lauren Fensterstock. After graduating, she worked for four years as a goldsmith for companies in southern Maine including Daunis Fine Jewelry and Jewelry Trade Technical Services (Gary Roe).
