These charming yet understated hoops are inspired by the charismatic California Quail: the iconic details of the upland bird are crafted by hand using forging, fabrication, and engraving techniques in upcycled sterling silver, and pink tourmaline eyes. Contrasting textures bring life and vibrancy to these earrings, hand-forged from a single piece of silver and finished with chasing and engraving techniques. The earring posts and ear nuts are both sterling silver. Available in large or mini size.

Seth Michael Studio
"Jewelry provides a medium to challenge expectations and inspire change. I am primarily motivated by an impulse to create jewelry that celebrates the movements of live beings. I pay attention to my emotional and physical experiences as I interact with the world around me and attempt to convey those moments through my work."

Seth Carlson has always believed that being a craftsperson and being altruistic are synonymous. Therefore, he considers contributing to and creating awareness of the natural world to be essential parts of mastering a craft. He is passionate about wildlife conservation, a theme that is consistently featured in his work alongside related themes of movement, biomimicry, and symbiosis.

Carlson finds the most satisfaction through hand-fabrication techniques. Each piece is crafted using heritage goldsmithing skills that he has developed over decades of being a craftsperson. He strategically uses fold forming, precision cutting, soldering, and filing to create his organically geometric patterns and compositions. He exclusively uses recycled silver and 18k gold in his work.

Carlson began his career as a studio artist in his father's stained glass studio, followed by metalsmithing classes at age 14. He earned a BFA in metals and jewelry from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2007, then worked as a studio goldsmith for Barbara Heinrich and Aaron Macsai. In addition, he has been a studio resident at the Rochester Institute of Technology and Loupe in Hong Kong.
