Some treasures take millions of years to make. This one-of-a-kind ring from the Sticks and Stones collection sets a triangular ammolite in a square twig of sterling silver, cast and oxidized to reveal every natural groove. Ammolite is among the rarest gems on Earth—an organic gem formed from fossilized ammonite shells that settled in ancient seas over 70 million years ago, found only in Alberta, Canada. This stone shifts from red fire into deep green as it catches the light, with a 3mm faceted peridot at the base for a spark of fresh green. Size 7.

"My current body of work is a marriage of elegance and the unexpected. The contemporary movement of the metalwork is in sharp contrast to the primitive elements of rough stones and enamels."

Evolution would be the best word to describe how Laura works. Her background is in illustration and painting. She has explored ceramic sculpture and was known for many years for the figurative jewelry incorporating porcelain sculpture with metal work. Laura's progression into enamel work seemed inevitable. She is always looking for new ways to express herself through her art.

Laura uses traditional metalsmith techniques including manipulating metal with hammers, fire, cutting, and soldering. Her experimentations with enamel and her love for rough stones and found objects keep Laura's work fresh and surprising.

Laura is mostly self-taught, however she attends a variety of workshops to expand her artistic vocabulary.
