David Kiernan became a furniture maker as a way to express his creativity, which had been stifled in his previous occupation as an engineer. Creating furniture allows him to have fun, and to sit back at the end of the day with a sense of satisfaction that he has created something that is both useful and beautiful.
Working primarily with wood and using metal an as accent, Kiernan always aims to highlight the beauty of his materials. His geometric, angular pieces reveal his love of Art Deco designs and his background as an engineer: each piece is the product of a carefully graphed process, a manifestation of a well-planned blueprint. His work has been recognized for its clean lines and elegance of form.
Kiernan studied woodworking at the Worcester Center for Crafts. He has been making contemporary furniture in his Rhode Island studio since 1993. His furniture has been shown at fine craft shows and galleries around the country.
