Creative Edge

Peggy Eng and Steve Souder
"It all started with scrap. Creative Edge is a recent collaboration between myself, Peggy Eng, a jeweler, and my woodworker husband Steve Souder. We were looking for a way to repurpose the beautiful hardwood offcuts from his cabinet shop."

Inspired by architectural elements, the cutting and serving boards of Creative Edge have fresh patterns, uncommon shapes and great attention to detail. Functionality and versatility are key so the size and weight of each piece, edge treatment, and surface finish is carefully considered. They strive to create an everyday object that is a joy to use.

Usually working with six different hardwoods, all sustainably grown and harvested, Creative Edge focuses on using the offcuts first. For the patterned boards each piece is precisely cut and fitted before being glued. A multi-step hand finishing process ensures no sharp edges and satin smooth surfaces.

Peggy studied jewelry and metals in Denton, Texas. For over 20 years she sold her work through galleries and art fairs. She also did product development with artisans in Peru and Cambodia for 8 years which was a life-changing experience. Steve studied woodworking in Durham, New Hampshire. In the past 30 years, he has built a thriving business as a general contractor with a high end cabinet shop.
