Sticks was started by artist Sarah Grant in 1992. Since then, Sticks has received national acclaim for a distinctive line of furniture, accessories, and home decor. The studio began by designing smaller items such as ornaments and candlesticks, and has evolved to feature larger items such as dining sets, beds, and armoires. Each piece is handcrafted in Sticks's award-winning studio in Des Moines, Iowa.
All pieces are finely crafted from a combination of milled hardwoods and rustic, fallen timber and driftwood. The pieces are further detailed with hand-drawn imagery, etched contouring, and vibrantly blended paint. Pieces are often embellished with sculptural wood components, metal, leather, and fabric.
Sticks has a studio of many artists with a wide variety of skills, from woodworking and finishing to drawing and painting. Artists combine their own creativity with the vision of Sticks founder, Sarah Grant, who earned a BFA in intaglio printmaking and an MFA in painting before founding the studio.
